Follow These 7 Principals to Make Your Website Visually Appealing

The Internet is becoming increasingly congested by the day, with hundreds of new websites with new web design Calgary being uploaded as you read this. It is getting increasingly difficult to stand out amid the crowd.

“Fortunately” for us designers, it appears that not everyone understands what makes or breaks a Web design. Since that web design is mostly a creative process, it is more akin to art than science. Nonetheless, because it is inherently a medium of presentation, some laws (or at the very least principles) apply. Everyone should be able to produce a visually appealing design and go one step closer to fame by following some basic recommendations.

#1. Keep Your Design Balanced

The goal of balance is to ensure that your design does not lean to one side or the other. It is similar to the weight balance in establishing symmetry or asymmetry. If you’re not cautious about how you set things out, the design can rapidly become imbalanced. Color, size, and the addition or removal of features are all methods to change the visual weight of a design. If you made the cross, say, a bright orange, it would become heavier and may throw the arrangement off again. Establishing asymmetrical balance is a particularly delicate topic that requires practice and a trained eye to master.

#2. Use Grids To Compartmentalize Your Design

Grids are strongly tied to the notion of balance. Grids are a set of horizontal and vertical rulers that aid in the “compartmentalization” of a design. Consider columns. Columns boost readability by making the text of a page simpler to digest. The utilization of space and the Rule of Thirds (or a comparable Golden Ratio) make things easy on the eye. While the design itself is not aesthetically appealing, the obvious rigid organization of pieces makes it simple on the eye. The left column is nearly double the size of the right sidebar, which makes sense and should be considered when designing your own layouts.

#3. Pick Two Or Three Base Colors At Most For Your Design

Colour Lovers and other similar websites exist for a purpose. You can’t just select your colors, weapons blazing, Rambo-style. Certain colors complement one other, whereas others do not. There are many ideas about colors and their combinations, including monochromatic and contrasting schemes, but a lot of it comes down to common sense and intuition. Discover for yourself what works well together. Take in as many website designs as you can, such as those presented on any of the many CSS showcase websites (such as Best Web Gallery), to gain a sense of how colors interact with one another. Choose no more than two or three foundation colors for your design, and then use tints (lighter, mixed with white) and shades (darker, combined with black) of these base colors to expand the palette as needed.

#4. Ensure That The Graphics Complement One Another

You may not be a talented illustrator or photographer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create visually appealing graphics for your website. All you need is some basic Photoshop skills, probably some stock photos, and exceptional taste. Make sure the visuals complement each other and portray the aesthetic you’re going for. But, we are not all endowed with the same inherent talent. You can learn from others, but sometimes you simply have to select the style that works best for you (like a clean style if you are not the greatest of illustrators).

#5. Enhance The Typography On Your Website

Since it involves so many components, the art of type is a difficult subject to discuss. While it might be considered a field of design, learning all of its features can take a lifetime. Because this is not the place to offer a comprehensive typographic reference, we will confine our discussion to what will be of immediate help to you. As compared to print typography, web typography suffers.

#6. Make components stand out by surrounding them with white space

White space, often known as negative space, refers to what is not present. White space, like measure and leading, provides text some breathing room and spatial serenity. You may make components stand out by surrounding them with white space. Copy, for example, should not appear crowded. Make sure paragraphs have enough padding to guarantee reading.

#7. Have All Elements Connected

“Connection” is a made-up phrase in this context, but it appears to be the best one for what we mean. The term “connection” refers to a Web design that is both cohesive and consistent. These two characteristics reflect a designer’s professionalism (and thus its designer). These are fairly wide characteristics. A design should be consistent in its usage of colors, typefaces, icons, and other elements. All of these factors are important; a design might appear amazing but yet have flaws.

Bottom line

Having a website is now a prerequisite to effective digital marketing and building a strong online presence, and for having a website that is often visited by customers, you must have visually appealing Web design.
